Capital Tap Haus
Visit their website: www.capitaltaphaus.com
The Capital Tap Haus is located in one of the oldest buildings on State Street dating back to 1857. At The Capital Tap Haus we bring you a traditional Tied House concept.
Tied houses were born pre prohibition when beer was so heavily taxed that tavern owners would look to local breweries for financial support. In return the taverns were required to only serve that breweries beer.
In the mid 1880's the original Hausmann Capital Brewery located just a few storefronts down State Street and was the largest Madison Brewery of that time.During this time period Wisconsin had more Breweries than anywhere in North America. Capital Brewery re-opened in 1984 just down the street in Middleton.
Today The Capital Tap Haus brings the tradition of turn of the century beer hall to the upper State Street/Capital square neighborhood and proudly features Capital Brewery beers, "America #1 rated brewery!"
