ESSEN HAUS HOLDS THE TRADITIONAL GERMAN CELEBRATION OF MAIFEST IN MADISON, MAY 5.
Reawaken your warm weather spirit at Maifest, the traditional German celebration that welcomes the flowers, birds, and bike rides with music, food, beer and cheer! Rain or shine, brats, beer, and other essential spring grilling foods are available outside with plenty of seating and free admission on May 5, 2012.

Start out the day welcoming the men finishing Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, a fun event that educates the community about a very serious subject and rallies the community to take action to prevent domestic violence.
At 12:00pm the official celebration begins. Featuring premium local brews and imports, grab a beer and a brat and then dance in the crossroads of Zyedco, blues, jazz, and rock with Copper Box from 2-6pm. (They rock an accordion so it’s close to German tunes.)

A family friendly event, bring the kids for free face painting and watch and participate in the colorful Maypole dance by the Oak Apple Morris Dancers at 4pm.
At 7pm the celebration moves inside with Jason Rowe rocking polka tunes at 8:30pm.
The Essen Haus is located at 514 E. Wilson St. in downtown Madison, WI.

In years past, during Essen Haus’ traditional Easter Dinner, the Easter Bunny has made surprise appearances while greeting diners and offering a sampling of sweet treats to excited children. Rumor has it, this year the Easter Bunny will make a repeat visit on Sunday, April 8. “I love polka music and always have a good time at the Essen Haus. During the off season you may even spot me partaking in a boot,” said the Easter Bunny.
